The management of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), Ondo, has dismissed claims that the Federal Government has been paying the salaries of staff at the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH).
In a statement, UNIMEDTH Chief Medical Director, Prof. Michael Gbala, said the Ondo State Government has solely funded staff salaries since the transition process began, spending over ₦2.3 billion on wages and emoluments between October 2025 and June 2026.
Gbala described FUTATH’s reported claim that the Federal Government had been responsible for salary payments as false and misleading, stressing that the payments were made by the state in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) pending the completion of the federal staff verification and absorption process.
He urged public institutions to uphold truth and transparency, noting that the Ondo State Government deserves recognition for sustaining the workforce during the transition.
The dispute comes amid ongoing labour issues at FUTATH, where a federal verification exercise approved 1,200 staff for absorption while recommending the redeployment of 265 workers back to the Ondo State Government.
