A House of Representatives ad hoc committee has cleared the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, of involvement in the activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The committee said its preliminary investigation found no evidence that Gbajabiamila authorised, established or participated in the activities of the alleged organisation.
Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, said the investigation instead showed that Gbajabiamila alerted security and investigative agencies after concerns about the council were brought to his attention.
The panel also found that a letter purportedly appointing Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi as Director-General of the organisation was forged and falsely attributed to the Presidency.
It further rejected documents presented as an executive order and an Act of the National Assembly establishing the council, saying neither had been lawfully issued, passed, assented to or gazetted.
According to the committee, there is currently no valid law, executive order or other lawful instrument establishing an institution known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
The controversy arose after the purported council appeared in Nigeria’s 2026 Federal Government budget, despite questions over its legal status. Adeyemi had claimed to head the organisation and alleged that he was appointed by Gbajabiamila.
The committee said preliminary financial information also linked about 58 bank accounts to identifying details associated with Adeyemi.
The investigation comes amid wider concerns over alleged fake government agencies, following the discovery of another purported government body, the National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office.
