Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has outlined an ambitious blueprint for Lagos, promising to tackle flooding, waste management, housing, building collapse, security, and healthcare if elected governor in 2027.
Speaking with journalists, Hamzat said his administration would focus on improving residents’ quality of life through efficient governance, expanded infrastructure, and stricter enforcement of planning regulations. He pledged to provide running water to 60 percent of Lagosians within two years, strengthen security with technology and community policing, promote affordable housing through mortgage financing, and address flooding by clearing drainage channels and enforcing physical planning laws.
On waste management, he advocated recycling and waste-to-energy initiatives, while also promising stronger oversight to curb building collapses through the Certified Accreditors Programme (CAP).
Hamzat defended the achievements of the Sanwo-Olu administration, describing ongoing rail projects as part of a long-term development plan, and reiterated the need for special status for Lagos to support its growing infrastructure demands.
He also dismissed claims of a one-term agreement if elected, pledged inclusive leadership built on consensus, and promised to empower his deputy rather than treat the office as a “spare tyre.”
On national politics, Hamzat backed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, saying the President has shown courage by implementing difficult reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, and should be given more time to consolidate his administration’s policies.
