Former Super Eagles striker Daniel Amokachi has taken another major step in his coaching career after completing the prestigious CAF A coaching licence course in Morocco. Meanwhile, Swedish coach Thomas Dennerby is reportedly in contention to return as head coach of the Super Falcons ahead of Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic qualifiers.
Former Super Eagles forward Daniel Amokachi has added another major achievement to his coaching credentials after successfully completing the CAF A Licence coaching course in Morocco.
The football icon, popularly known as “The Bull,” announced the achievement on Facebook, where he expressed his gratitude to the Moroccan Football Federation for giving him the opportunity to participate in the programme.
“Finally CAF A In The Bag. Thank U Moroccan Football Federation, For The Opportunity,” Amokachi wrote.
The latest qualification strengthens Amokachi’s credentials as he continues to build a career in coaching following his successful playing days.
Amokachi, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated strikers, has previously worked as a coach in Nigeria and abroad. He also served as an assistant coach of the Super Eagles, adding international coaching experience to his profile.
The CAF A Licence is an advanced coaching qualification under the Confederation of African Football’s coaching education programme and is regarded as an important credential for coaches seeking to work at a higher level of African football.
Dennerby Tipped for Super Falcons Return
Meanwhile, former Super Falcons head coach Thomas Dennerby has reportedly emerged as a leading candidate to return to the Nigeria women’s national team.
The Swedish coach is among the names being considered by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the federation moves to appoint a new technical crew ahead of the Super Falcons’ 2028 Olympic qualifiers.
Former Falcons coach Florence Omagbemi and other Nigerian coaches are also reportedly under consideration.
The NFF’s interim leadership, headed by Emmanuel Ikpeme, is expected to conclude the appointment before Nigeria’s Olympic qualifying campaign against Comoros in October.
The development follows the decision in August for Justine Madugu and his technical crew to step aside after the Super Falcons failed to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco and missed out on qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Madugu had previously led Nigeria to a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in 2025.
National Sports Commission Director-General Bukola Olopade has also confirmed that a new technical team will be appointed before the Olympic qualifiers.
Dennerby’s Previous Super Falcons Record
Dennerby, 65, previously managed the Super Falcons from January 2018 to September 2019.
During his tenure, he guided Nigeria to victory at the 2018 WAFCON in Ghana and led the team to the knockout stage of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
The 2019 tournament marked Nigeria’s first appearance in the World Cup last 16 in two decades.
Dennerby later left his position following an administrative dispute with the NFF before taking charge of the Indian women’s national team, where he remained until his contract ended in 2023.
Omagbemi remains another strong candidate. She famously guided the Super Falcons to the 2016 WAFCON title.
With Nigeria’s Olympic qualifying campaign approaching, the NFF now faces the crucial task of selecting a technical team capable of returning the Super Falcons to the global stage.
