Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that summer signing Bruno Guimaraes could make his long-awaited debut when the Gunners face Aston Villa in Monday night’s Premier League clash at Villa Park.
The Brazilian midfielder joined Arsenal from Newcastle United in a £75 million transfer during the summer window but has been sidelined since arriving due to a groin injury suffered before the start of the 2026/27 season.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Arteta revealed that the 28-year-old has returned to training and could feature as Arsenal continue the defence of their Premier League title.
When asked if Guimaraes would be available for selection against Aston Villa, Arteta responded: “Yes, potentially.”
The Spanish tactician explained that the club has been cautious with the midfielder’s recovery process to ensure he returns to action without complications.
“No, we just managed the last few days with him, he’s been out on the pitch doing training sessions but we need to manage the load,” Arteta said.
Guimaraes’ possible debut will come as a major boost for Arsenal, who are looking to strengthen their midfield options as the campaign gathers momentum.
Arteta also offered updates on the fitness of defender Jurrien Timber, who is making steady progress in his recovery. Timber’s absence has seen Ben White fill in at the back, while summer recruit Ezri Konsa, who arrived from Aston Villa in a £50 million deal, provides additional defensive cover.
“We have increased his load, if everything goes well then we can step it up again,” Arteta said of Timber.
However, the Arsenal manager admitted that defender William Saliba remains some way from returning to action.
“Willy is going to take a while,” Arteta added.
Arsenal supporters will now be eager to see whether Guimaraes makes his first appearance in red and white as the Gunners seek another important result against Aston Villa.
