The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University, Bokkos (ASUU-PLASU), has declared an indefinite strike over what it described as the failure of the university management to address several outstanding demands by academic staff.

The union announced the industrial action on August 25, 2026, directing lecturers to immediately withdraw their services from all academic activities at the institution.

The decision followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management on August 11. According to the union, management responded to the demands on August 18, but failed to provide satisfactory resolutions to the issues raised.

In a statement signed by the ASUU-PLASU Chairperson, Vincent Choji, and Secretary, Lomka Iliya, the union outlined several concerns affecting its members and the welfare of staff at the university.

Among the major demands are the implementation of the contributory pension scheme and payment of outstanding pension-related obligations.

The union is also demanding payment of salary-related arrears dating back to January 2026, as well as outstanding wage award payments covering 22 months.

Other demands include improved staff housing, enhanced security for members of staff and an end to what the union described as intimidation of academic staff.

ASUU-PLASU said the strike would remain in force indefinitely until the issues are adequately addressed and meaningful steps are taken to resolve the disputes.

The development is expected to affect academic activities at Plateau State University, Bokkos, as lecturers withdraw from teaching and other academic responsibilities.

The union’s action highlights growing concerns over staff welfare and the implementation of outstanding financial and institutional obligations within the university system.

Students and other stakeholders are now awaiting further discussions between the union and university management that could lead to a resolution of the dispute and the eventual suspension of the strike.
