Nigerian musician Stephen Ebihor, popularly known as Papi Urhobo, has died following a prolonged battle with illness.
The singer died on September 8, 2026, according to a statement released by Urhobo Worldwide, a cultural and digital platform dedicated to promoting Urhobo heritage.
The platform announced his death in a statement shared on Instagram, describing Ebihor as a brother, friend, colleague and fellow entertainer.
“With profound sadness, we acknowledge the passing of our dear brother, friend, colleague, and fellow entertainer, Stephen Ebihor aka Papy Urhobo.”
Urhobo Worldwide also appealed to fans, colleagues and members of the public to avoid circulating unverified information concerning his burial arrangements until the family makes an official announcement.
The group expressed appreciation to everyone who supported the late musician during his health struggles and urged the public to remember his wife and children in their prayers.
Health Struggles
Before his death, Ebihor had publicly spoken about the health challenges he faced following an accident that affected his mobility.
According to the musician, the accident resulted in a cracked bone and made walking difficult. As his condition persisted, he appealed to Nigerians and well-wishers for financial assistance to undergo surgery, hoping the procedure would restore his ability to walk.
He later shared an update thanking those who responded to his appeal and contributed towards his medical treatment.
Contribution To Nigerian Music
Papi Urhobo gained wider recognition among Nigerian music lovers through his contribution to Timaya’s hit song Ogologomma, featured on the singer’s 2007 debut studio album, True Story.
His distinctive vocal delivery became one of the memorable elements of the song and helped introduce him to a broader Nigerian audience.
The collaboration came during the early stages of Timaya’s rise in the Nigerian music industry, with Ogologomma becoming one of the notable tracks from the album.
Ebihor is survived by his wife and children.
