The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday commended the ongoing governorship election process in Osun State, describing the voting and polling unit opening process as peaceful and orderly.
According to INEC, voting commenced smoothly across the state, with 3,556 out of the 3,763 polling units opened as of 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The figure represents 94.5 per cent of the total polling units in the state.
The electoral body disclosed this in an update shared on its official X account while providing information on the conduct of the governorship election.
INEC further stated that the remaining 207 polling units, representing 5.5 per cent, experienced minor delays but had become fully operational by 9 a.m.
The commission also disclosed that the Registration Area Centre (RAC) activation exercise for the election was successfully completed at 6:09 p.m. on Friday.
“RAC activation was successfully completed (100%) at 6:09 p.m. yesterday in preparation for the Osun State Governorship Election,” INEC stated.
The electoral body described the deployment of personnel and the opening of polling units as peaceful, orderly and timely.
“The RAC activation and polling unit opening processes were conducted in a peaceful, orderly, and timely manner,” the commission added.
The Osun State governorship election features incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party (A). He is being challenged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, and other candidates.
