The national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has warned politicians planning to use federal power to manipulate the 2027 general elections that their efforts will fail.
Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, issued the warning in a post on his đť•Ź handle on Saturday, while cautioning against intimidation ahead of the elections.
He urged NDC members, candidates, stakeholders and supporters to remain committed despite what he described as attempts to intimidate voters and shrink the democratic space.
According to him, since 2015, he has led Bayelsa State in opposition and worked to prevent what he described as the use of federal institutions to intimidate voters.
Dickson said those planning to use soldiers, police and thugs to intimidate voters and manipulate election results were “living in the past” and would ultimately fail.
He also called on young people, women, community leaders and other citizens to reject violence, participate peacefully in the democratic process, vote out oppressive leaders and legally defend their votes.
He further warned against the emergence of a one-party state in Nigeria, stressing that neither the country nor any state should be allowed to become a one-party entity.
