The Premier League has unveiled a shortlist of 12 of the greatest teenage talents in its history, inviting fans to vote for the competition’s greatest-ever wonderkid after highlighting players who made a significant impact before the age of 20.

The nominees include Nicolas Anelka, Gareth Bale, Cesc Fabregas, Phil Foden, Robbie Fowler, Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Junior Kroupi.
Anelka, Bale, Fabregas
Nicolas Anelka broke into Arsenal’s first team at 18 and played a key role in the Gunners’ Premier League and FA Cup double. He later won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid before returning to England to claim another Premier League title, the Golden Boot, and two FA Cups with Chelsea.
Gareth Bale made his Southampton debut at just 16 before joining Tottenham Hotspur, where he transformed from a left-back into one of the league’s most exciting attacking players. His performances earned him a then world-record transfer to Real Madrid.
Cesc Fabregas became Arsenal’s youngest-ever player and goalscorer, records that were later surpassed by Max Dowman. The Spaniard established himself as a regular in the first team before turning 18 and went on to win league titles with Barcelona and Chelsea, as well as the FIFA World Cup and two UEFA European Championships with Spain.
Foden, Fowler, Gerrard
Phil Foden made his Manchester City debut at 17 and lifted the Premier League trophy in his first season. Since then, he has won six league titles, two PFA Young Player of the Year awards, and was a key member of City’s Treble-winning team in the 2022/23 campaign.
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler emerged as one of the league’s most prolific strikers after making his debut at 18. He recorded consecutive 30-goal seasons and finished his Premier League career with 163 goals for the Reds.
Steven Gerrard also made his Liverpool debut at 18, becoming the driving force in the club’s midfield. During his 17-year spell at Anfield, he won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, two FA Cups, and three League Cups.
Ronaldo, Rooney, Owen
Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon for a then-record fee for a teenager. He won the FA Cup in his debut season before helping United secure three consecutive Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League, eventually claiming the first of his five Ballon d’Or awards.
Wayne Rooney announced his arrival with a stunning goal for Everton against Arsenal at the age of 16. He later became only the third player to score more than 200 Premier League goals and won numerous major trophies with Manchester United.
Michael Owen scored on his Liverpool debut at 17 and became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer. He won back-to-back Premier League Golden Boots before claiming the Ballon d’Or and later added a Premier League title with Manchester United.
Saka, Rashford, Kroupi
Bukayo Saka rose through Arsenal’s academy before making his senior debut at 17. He developed into a key player under Mikel Arteta and helped Arsenal end a 22-year wait for the Premier League title during the 2025/26 season.
Marcus Rashford enjoyed a dream start to his Manchester United career at 18, scoring twice on his Europa League debut before adding another brace against Arsenal three days later. He finished his breakthrough season by lifting the FA Cup and later won the League Cup and Europa League.
Junior Kroupi also earned a place on the shortlist after becoming the first teenager in more than two decades to score 10 goals in his debut Premier League season. The AFC Bournemouth forward ended the 2025/26 campaign with 13 league goals, setting a new record for a teenage debutant and surpassing the previous mark jointly held by Robbie Fowler and Robbie Keane.
