Major General Auwalu Mahmuda has officially assumed duty as the 56th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, pledging to consolidate the operational gains recorded by the Division in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
The handing-over and taking-over ceremony took place at the Headquarters, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan, marking a new phase in the leadership of one of the Nigerian Army’s key operational formations.
Speaking during the ceremony, Major General Mahmuda expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment. He assured officers and soldiers that he would build on the achievements of his predecessor while strengthening the Division’s operational effectiveness.
He pledged to sustain ongoing efforts to enhance security, professionalism, discipline and operational readiness across the Division’s area of responsibility. He also reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to working closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to tackle security challenges.
The new GOC urged officers and personnel of the Division to remain loyal, disciplined and dedicated to their duties, stressing that teamwork, commitment and adherence to professional ethics are essential to achieving the Division’s mandate.
Major General Mahmuda further emphasised his commitment to the welfare of troops, promising to provide an enabling environment that would motivate personnel to perform optimally while upholding the highest standards of professionalism.
Earlier, the outgoing General Officer Commanding formally handed over the command of the Division to Major General Mahmuda, expressing confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership and sustain the momentum of ongoing operations.
The ceremony featured the signing of handing-over documents, presentation of the command flag, inspection of a quarter guard, and interaction with senior officers, commanders and other personnel of the Division.
Headquartered in Ibadan, the 2 Division is one of the Nigerian Army’s strategic formations, responsible for maintaining peace and security across parts of the South-West while supporting internal security operations in collaboration with other security agencies.
