Dangote Refinery IPO: How Nigerians Can Buy Shares for ₦5,250

Business News

Nigerians can soon become shareholders in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery as the company prepares to open its highly anticipated public offer on September 14, 2026.

The offer involves 4.1 billion ordinary shares at ₦525 per share, with the company targeting about ₦2.15 trillion.

The minimum subscription is just 10 shares, costing ₦5,250.

Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote, signed the offer documents on Monday, September 7, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

The offer, approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is being coordinated by Vetiva Advisory Services Limited and is expected to close on October 13, 2026.

How to Buy Dangote Refinery Shares

1. Open a Stockbroking Account

You need an account with an SEC- and NGX-licensed stockbroker to apply for the shares. Many brokers allow investors to register online.

2. Get a CSCS Account

Your shares will be held electronically through the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS). Your stockbroker will typically assist you in opening and linking the account.

3. Complete Verification

Submit the required Know-Your-Customer information and wait for your broker to activate your account.

4. Fund Your Account

The minimum investment is ₦5,250 for 10 shares. If you want to buy more, check the final prospectus for the applicable subscription rules.

5. Apply Through Approved Channels

When the offer opens on September 14, submit your application through participating stockbrokers or other platforms officially authorised in the offer documents.

Investors should be extremely cautious of individuals or platforms soliciting payment for Dangote Refinery shares outside approved channels.

6. Wait for Allotment

Applying for shares does not guarantee that you will receive the full number requested.

If the offer is oversubscribed, applications may be scaled down according to the allotment rules. Money for shares not allotted should be refunded under the terms of the offer.

7. Monitor Your Investment

Once the shares are listed on the Nigerian Exchange, investors can monitor their holdings through their brokers or trading platforms.

The market price may rise or fall after listing, meaning investors could make or lose money depending on market performance.

Why the IPO Matters

Dangote said the low entry point was designed to give more Nigerians an opportunity to own part of the refinery, describing it as “the IPO for the people.”

Part of the funds raised is expected to support the refinery’s expansion, with plans to increase capacity to about 1.4 million barrels per day.
