Spain defender Marc Cucurella has honoured World Cup-winning coach Luis de la Fuente by getting a tattoo of the manager following Spain’s World Cup victory.
Cucurella was part of the Spain squad that defeated Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final earlier this month, with De la Fuente leading the team to international glory.
The Real Madrid defender, who joined the club from Chelsea for £52 million in June, unveiled the tattoo on social media. The artwork features a portrait of De la Fuente holding the World Cup trophy alongside the number 26.
Sharing images and videos of the completed tattoo, Cucurella wrote: “Promise kept.”
The defender had pledged to get the tribute if Spain won the World Cup. After the final, De la Fuente jokingly said he expected Cucurella to keep his promise.
“They did, but they’ll enjoy it. I’m not so terribly ugly that they will need to put it somewhere nobody can see it. But it makes me laugh and I am proud they keep their promises,” the coach said.
Cucurella was one of Spain’s standout performers throughout the tournament and also attracted attention for his personality off the pitch. He carried his wife’s pyjama top as a lucky charm during the World Cup and previously revealed that his trademark long, curly hair helps his child easily recognize him during matches.
The new tattoo now stands as a permanent tribute to Spain’s World Cup success and the close bond between the defender and the coach who guided the team to the title.
