‘No Justification for Poor Police Pay’ — Sowore Rallies Support for Officers

Human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has called for a significant increase in the salaries of lower-ranking officers in the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking on a televised program on Wednesday, Sowore argued that there is no justification for policemen earning less than ₦500,000 monthly, especially when the senators they protect reportedly earn up to ₦30 million per month.

He revealed that the planned protest scheduled for July 21 was initiated by disgruntled police officers themselves, who are prepared to go on strike over poor remuneration.

Sowore appealed to Nigerians — particularly celebrities and entertainers who benefit from police protection — to join the protest and support the call for better pay for security personnel.
