Osun Cannot Be Exempted from Local Government Autonomy — NLC President

Ajaero insists the constitution must be upheld as the state, FG remain at loggerheads over withheld allocations

The National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has asserted that Osun State cannot be treated as an exception among Nigeria’s 36 states when it comes to implementing local government autonomy.

Ajaero emphasized that no one should violate the Constitution under the guise of interpreting the Supreme Court’s judgment.

It will be recalled that since January 2025, tensions have escalated between the Federal Government and the Osun State Government over the issue of financial autonomy for local government councils. This has reportedly led to the withholding of statutory allocations to Osun’s 30 local governments for the past three months.
