Former Ekiti governor’s brother says government should focus on alleged corruption and poor infrastructure instead of only pursuing internet fraudsters
Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has launched a fresh criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, questioning its approach to fighting corruption, tackling internet fraud and addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges.
Fayose made the remarks in a video shared on his official Facebook page, where he accused the administration of failing across several areas of governance.
He particularly questioned the focus on the arrest and prosecution of internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo,” while alleging that some individuals accused of stealing public funds continue to accumulate and display expensive properties and luxury vehicles.
“They arrest Yahoo Yahoo but some people are stealing our money to build hotels and buy Rolls-Royce to flaunt it to our faces,” Fayose said.
He also criticised Nigerians who support the Tinubu administration, describing them as “hopeless people” and arguing that citizens should be able to rely on legitimate work and economic opportunities rather than political patronage.
Fayose attacks government’s economic record
Fayose further criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that its years in power had negatively affected Nigeria’s economy.
He claimed that Nigeria had moved from being Africa’s number-one economy to number five.
His assessment was also extended to the government’s infrastructure programme, particularly the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
‘Coastal road is not enough’
According to Fayose, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which he described as the major project frequently highlighted by the administration, should not be presented as sufficient evidence of overall development.
He argued that many roads connecting villages and states remain in poor condition.
“The only achievement this government shouts about is the coastal road. But the road to your village is bad,” he said.
Fayose concluded his criticism by declaring that, in his view, the government had failed to meet expectations across several areas.
His comments add to the growing public debate over the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, infrastructure spending, anti-corruption efforts and campaign against cybercrime.
