Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made firearm with live ammunition during a coordinated operation aimed at tackling violent crime across the state.
The suspects, identified as Tomiwa Ayomide, 28, Haruna Kabiru, 32, and Haruna Hassan, popularly known as “Malo,” 32, were apprehended by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in the Sabo-Mokola area of Ibadan.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed in a statement issued on Monday that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected armed robbers operating from the apartment.
According to the statement, a thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of a single-barrel locally made cut-to-size firearm and seven live cartridges.
Ayanlade said the suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine their involvement in other criminal activities and to track down additional members of the gang who are still at large.
The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the state will continue.
The Command also appealed to residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations against crime and other security threats.
