Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme made history on Tuesday after storming to gold in the men’s 100 metres at the Commonwealth Games, clocking an impressive 9.83 seconds in the Glasgow rain.
Eseme’s remarkable performance shattered the 28-year-old Commonwealth Games record previously held by Trinidad and Tobago’s Ato Boldon. The victory also set a new national record for Cameroon and moved Eseme to third among the fastest sprinters in the world this season.
Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy claimed the silver medal after setting a new Oceanian record of 9.85 seconds, while Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi secured bronze in 9.90 seconds.
South Africa’s Gift Leotlela narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth, just 0.01 seconds behind Ajayi.
Eseme’s historic run marks one of the standout performances of the Games and places Cameroon firmly on the global sprinting map.
