President Bola Tinubu has urged governors of the six North-East states to intensify efforts in tackling terrorism and banditry, stressing that stronger collaboration is essential to restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
Speaking on Thursday while receiving a delegation of North-East political leaders and senior government officials at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Tinubu said the region continues to face serious security challenges that require a united response from all stakeholders.
“I could see the leadership of the Northeast challenged because of terrorism and banditry. Only when we stick together, think together, and face the challenges as a united country do we prevail,” the President said.
Tinubu also expressed confidence in the country’s economic direction, declaring that Nigeria had entered a “golden age” following efforts to stabilise the economy.
“The golden age is here now. If you can stabilise the economy, Nigerians are not asking for too much—simple stability and social welfare,” he stated, assuring citizens that his administration would remain focused on democratic stability and national prosperity.
The President highlighted ongoing infrastructure development in the North-East, pointing to the Akwanga-Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri Superhighway as evidence of his administration’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises. He also said his government was addressing outstanding pension liabilities inherited from previous administrations.
The delegation was led by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, who said the visit was to appreciate Tinubu for retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Zulum described the decision as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to rewarding loyalty, competence and dedication, while pledging the region’s continued support for Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor also commended the Federal Government’s investments in infrastructure, education, agriculture, job creation and the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons across the North-East.
Former Vice President Babagana Kingibe, who also addressed the gathering, reaffirmed the support of senior political leaders in the region for Tinubu’s administration, saying they remained influential voices who continue to guide and mobilise their communities in support of the government’s policies.
