Tragedy was averted on Thursday after an Enugu Air aircraft crash-landed at the Benin Airport in Edo State.
The aircraft, bearing Registration Number 5N-ENR, was carrying 68 passengers, in addition to its crew members, when the incident occurred.
A source at the Benin Airport, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the aircraft was operating a scheduled Enugu–Benin–Lagos commercial flight when it overshot the runway after landing and veered into the nearby bush.
According to the source, officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) responded promptly to the incident, ensuring the safe evacuation of all passengers and crew.
“The aircraft overshot the runway and entered the nearby bush. FAAN immediately swung into action, and all the passengers were evacuated. No casualty was recorded,” the source said.
The source, however, could not confirm the exact number of crew members on board at the time of the incident.
The cause of the runway excursion has not yet been officially disclosed, while aviation authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
