Okpebholo Promises Sustainable Development, Urges Unity at Eid Visit

Monday Okpebholo has assured residents that his administration will drive sustainable development across key sectors through its SHINE Agenda to improve the overall well-being of the people.

The governor gave the assurance while receiving Muslim faithful at the Government House in Benin City during a Sallah homage visit.

Represented by his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to security, urging citizens to support efforts to combat insecurity by remaining vigilant.

He described Eid-el-Fitr as a significant celebration marking the end of Ramadan—a sacred period of fasting, reflection, discipline, and renewal—adding that it embodies values of peace, compassion, unity, and love.

“The Edo State Government deeply recognises the importance of this occasion and the ideals it represents. As we celebrate, let us embrace unity, forgiveness, and gratitude, and continue to foster peaceful coexistence across our communities,” he said.

He further stressed that the administration remains committed to ensuring the safety of all residents, calling on citizens to report suspicious activities.

“Together, we can overcome our challenges and build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Edo State. Through our SHINE Agenda, this government is dedicated to driving sustainable development, particularly in critical sectors and infrastructure,” he added.

In his remarks, the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Musa Ikhilor, commended the state’s religious harmony and urged residents to continue supporting government efforts.

He described Ramadan as a period of spiritual renewal and encouraged citizens to uphold values of love, charity, and compassion.

Ikhilor also noted the unique coexistence in Edo State, pointing out that both Ramadan and the Christian fasting period began on February 18, 2026, symbolising unity among residents.

Earlier, the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Abdul-Fatai Enabulele, praised the governor’s developmental strides, particularly in road infrastructure, and urged him to sustain the momentum.

He also called on individuals involved in criminal activities such as terrorism, kidnapping, and robbery to desist, stressing that peace is essential for national development.

The cleric further urged the government to address key concerns affecting residents, including electricity supply, security, environmental sanitation, and the conduct of commercial drivers in the state.
