Iranian Missile Hits Near Al Minhad Air Base Amid Rising Gulf Tensions

An Iranian missile has struck near Al Minhad Air Base, a key installation hosting forces from the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, as tensions continue to escalate across the Gulf region.

The projectile reportedly hit a road just outside the base, causing a small fire and minor damage near an accommodation block and medical centre. No casualties were recorded, although explosions were heard around the facility, which serves as a major transit hub for Western military operations in the Middle East.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the incident, describing it as part of a broader pattern of attacks across the region. He noted that it remains unclear whether the base itself was the intended target.

Australia’s Defence Department said its priority remains the safety of personnel, adding that force protection measures are being reviewed as the situation evolves.

The strike comes amid a wider wave of attacks reportedly linked to Iran, with incidents recorded in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

In Dubai, missile alerts were triggered and interceptor systems activated, while Saudi authorities reported intercepting a ballistic missile targeting Prince Sultan Air Base and a drone aimed at Riyadh’s diplomatic quarter.

The escalation follows ongoing hostilities involving Iran, the United States and Israel, with Tehran targeting military and energy infrastructure across the region.

Iran has also asserted tighter control over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime corridor through which about one-fifth of global oil supplies pass. While the route remains open, access has reportedly been restricted for the United States and its allies.

The growing conflict has already impacted global energy markets, with oil prices rising and major energy firms scaling back operations, raising concerns over supply disruptions and broader economic consequences.
