Police Disrupt Opening of ADC Secretariat in Bakassi, Cross River

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed that the planned inauguration of a new African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat in Bakassi Local Government Area was disrupted after unidentified individuals caused a disturbance at the venue.

The ceremony, intended to launch the party’s new office ahead of its national convention on April 14, 2026, saw canopies pulled down, chairs scattered, and parts of the sound system damaged. Panic ensued among attendees, forcing organisers to suspend the event as people rushed to safety.

Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Eitokpah, stated that security operatives, including tactical response teams, were quickly deployed to restore order. Investigations into those responsible for the disruption are ongoing.

The ADC’s planned ward congresses, local government, and state congresses, set to begin on April 7, form part of its constitutional process to renew leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a statement, the party urged members nationwide to actively participate in the process while adhering to democratic values.
