Explosions Rock Maiduguri as Residents Report Blasts in Three Locations

Multiple explosions were reported in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday evening, sparking panic among residents.

Sources said the incidents occurred around 7:30 p.m. on March 16, 2026, with blasts heard in different parts of the city.

A resident, Abdul Ahmed, said the explosions were heard near the El-Kanemi Monday Market and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

Another resident, Fadila Abdulrahman, confirmed the development, adding that a third explosion occurred around the Post Office Maiduguri area.

While the exact cause of the explosions has not yet been officially confirmed, residents suspect the attacks may be linked to insurgents, including the extremist group Boko Haram.

Security agencies are yet to issue a formal statement on the incidents as investigations continue.
