Nigerian singer Joeboy has reacted to the controversy surrounding the victory of South African star Tyla at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Tyla won the Best African Music Performance category with her song Push 2 Start, beating a strong lineup of Nigerian artistes including Davido, Omah Lay, Wizkid, Ayra Starr and Burna Boy.
Her victory sparked mixed reactions online, with some critics arguing that a Nigerian artist should have taken home the award.
Speaking during a recent interview with Jay On-Air, Joeboy said although he personally hoped Davido would win, Tyla deserved the recognition.
“Personally, I was rooting for Davido to win the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammys, but you can’t take it away from Tyla,” he said.
“She is an amazing artist whether you accept it or not. She really put in the work.”
The singer added that while fans are free to feel disappointed, Tyla’s achievement should be respected.
“People can be angry all they want but she deserved the Grammy win. I can’t fault her triumph,” Joeboy said.
According to him, even though he supported Davido for the award, Tyla’s success at the Grammys cannot be dismissed.
