A joint security operation involving personnel from the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), as well as local vigilantes and hunters, has destroyed three major bandit camps in Kogi State.
The State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Sunday (rtd), disclosed that the camps—allegedly operated by notorious bandit leader Kachalla Babangida—were overrun during coordinated air and ground assaults.
According to him, the operation combined heavy aerial bombardment with ground offensives, resulting in the neutralisation of scores of bandits and the rescue of several kidnapped victims.
Sunday stated that the rescued victims have been taken to medical facilities for treatment and will subsequently be moved to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps before being reunited with their families.
He praised the bravery and professionalism of the security personnel involved in the operation and reiterated the Kogi State Government’s commitment to supporting efforts to eradicate banditry and terrorism.
The security adviser also called on residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that sustained cooperation is vital to ensuring lasting peace and the success of ongoing clearance operations.
