Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has advised women to exercise patience and caution in the early stages of a relationship.
Speaking on the IMO podcast, Michelle Obama stressed that moving in together too soon can lead to complications, regardless of financial stability or appearances.
“If it’s early in a relationship, you shouldn’t be moving in. I don’t care how much money he has, you do not know him yet!” she said.
She warned that rushing into cohabitation could expose partners to unexpected realities. “What will you do if you find out that he lied about something or is different from who you thought he was after moving in together? Moving in early is almost like signing a contract — you’re in for it. Why would you even consider that so soon?” she asked.
Encouraging patience, Michelle Obama advised couples to take time to truly understand each other before making major commitments.
“I think you should wait for a couple of years because you barely know him. Get to know each other a few more years before considering moving in together,” she added.
Her remarks have sparked conversations online, with many praising her candid take on modern relationships and commitment.
