Manchester United have confirmed that Brazilian midfielder Casemiro will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the current season.
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022 and has made 146 appearances for the club, bringing an end to a four-year spell at Old Trafford marked by silverware and memorable performances.
During his time with the Red Devils, the 33-year-old scored in the 2023 Carabao Cup final victory and featured in two FA Cup finals, lifting the trophy in 2024. He was also part of the United side that reached the Europa League final in May last season.
In a statement, the club paid tribute to the midfielder’s contributions.
“Casemiro will leave Manchester United this summer upon the expiry of his contract. The legendary midfielder has enjoyed four seasons at the club, playing 146 games and scoring 21 goals to date,” the statement read.
“A serial winner, Casemiro quickly became a fan favourite due to his combative nature and knack for scoring important goals. He played a key role in United’s 2023 Carabao Cup triumph, scoring a header in the final against Newcastle United, and went on to win the Emirates FA Cup in 2024.”
The club added that supporters will have the chance to honour Casemiro at United’s final home game of the season against Nottingham Forest.
Reacting to the announcement, Casemiro said he would carry the club with him forever.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. From the first day I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love I now share with our supporters for this special club,” he said.
“It is not time to say goodbye yet. There are still many memories to create over the next four months. We still have a lot to fight for together, and my full focus remains on giving everything to help the club succeed.”
In a message shared on Instagram, the Brazil international added: “Knowing when stages come to an end. Knowing when to say goodbye, when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever.”
