Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in a fire outbreak that engulfed a storey commercial building on Somoye Osundairo Street in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State, in the early hours of Tuesday, January 20.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the fire broke out at about 1:55 a.m., prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from its Command and Control Centre in Alausa.
According to the agency, LASEMA’s response team arrived at the scene to find a one-storey commercial building housing dealers in computers and accessories already engulfed in flames.
The team immediately carried out a risk assessment, cordoned off the affected area, and coordinated a multi-agency response involving the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, and the Nigeria Police Force to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
“All goods and properties worth millions of naira stored in the building were completely destroyed by the fire,” LASEMA said.
The agency added that firefighting operations were successful in suppressing and containing the blaze within the affected building, thereby preventing it from escalating to adjoining structures. No casualties were reported as at the time of filing this report.
