Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Saturday oversaw the All Progressives Congress (APC) Osun State governorship primary election ahead of the 2026 polls, describing the exercise as a clear demonstration of party unity, internal democracy and collective commitment to progressive leadership.
Okpebholo, who served as Chairman of the Osun State Governorship Primary Election Committee, spoke at Eboluwa International School in Osogbo, where party leaders, aspirants and stakeholders converged for the primary.
He described the exercise as a significant moment for the party in the state, noting that the peaceful and orderly process reflected the shared determination of members to move forward as one united family.
The Edo State governor expressed appreciation to the APC National Working Committee and fellow governors serving on the election committee for the confidence reposed in them, assuring that the responsibility was handled with utmost seriousness.
According to him, the primary election underscored the unity of purpose within the party and positioned the APC strongly ahead of the 2026 governorship contest in Osun State.
Okpebholo also acknowledged the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending the Renewed Hope Agenda and ongoing reforms and economic interventions being implemented nationwide. He urged party members and Nigerians to continue supporting the President to ensure policy continuity beyond 2027.
He further stressed the importance of Osun State maintaining a strong alignment with the Federal Government, noting that such synergy would attract increased development, federal projects, economic support and broader opportunities for the people of the state.
Following his remarks, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, SAN, moved a motion for the adoption of a consensus candidate, nominating Bola Oyebamiji. The motion was seconded by Senator Babajide Omoworare and was unanimously endorsed by party members and other aspirants.
The development paved the way for Bola Oyebamiji’s emergence as the APC flag bearer for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
The primary election was attended by several prominent party leaders, including the Governor of Ondo State and Co-Chairman of the Committee, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa; the Governor of Lagos State, represented by his deputy; the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule; former Governor of Kogi State, Yahya Bello; and other key stakeholders.
