The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Primary Election Committee and Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on party stakeholders in Osun State to close ranks and intensify efforts to reclaim the state in the 2026 governorship election.
Okpebholo made the call on Friday during a stakeholders’ meeting at the APC secretariat in Osogbo, ahead of the party’s governorship primary scheduled for Saturday.
Addressing party leaders, aspirants and delegates, the Edo State governor said the APC was at a critical juncture and must act collectively to return Osun State to progressive leadership.
He described the gathering as a demonstration of the party’s shared determination to deepen internal democracy while repositioning the APC to win back the state from the opposition.
Okpebholo assured stakeholders that the primary election would be conducted with strict adherence to transparency and fairness, explaining that the exercise would adopt an affirmation and consensus approach. He added that all 166 accredited delegates would undergo thorough screening to ensure the credibility of the process.
According to him, only properly accredited delegates would be allowed to participate, stressing that clear understanding of the procedure by all stakeholders was essential to guarantee accountability.
The APC committee chairman further urged party leaders, aspirants, delegates and supporters to cooperate fully with election officials, noting that unity within the party remained the strongest asset ahead of the 2026 governorship contest.
He emphasized that reclaiming Osun State would require discipline, loyalty to the party structure and strong internal cohesion, which he said would ultimately determine the party’s success.
Earlier, the Governor of Ondo State and Deputy Chairman of the Election Committee, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, underscored the importance of party supremacy, urging all members to align their actions with the APC’s collective interest.
Stakeholders at the meeting echoed the call for unity, reaffirming their commitment to a common objective of returning Osun State to APC control and restoring progressive governance in 2026.
