NUJ Edo Council Condemns Assault on EBS Reporter, Demands Arrest of Suspect

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, has strongly condemned the assault on Juliet Enabulele Asein, a reporter with the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), who was allegedly attacked by Kelly Okungbowa, popularly known as Ebo Stone, during a public event in Benin City on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Union’s leadership, the NUJ described the incident as a disturbing violation of press freedom and an unacceptable attack on the safety and dignity of a journalist carrying out her lawful duties.

The Council noted that journalists play a critical role in strengthening democracy and promoting accountability and warned that further attacks on media practitioners would not be tolerated. It urged members of the public—particularly prominent personalities—to exercise restraint and show respect for the constitutional responsibilities of the press.

The NUJ called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to immediately arrest Okungbowa, conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, and ensure that justice is served.
