Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dismissed allegations suggesting that any form of genocide is taking place in the state. Speaking at a public event, the governor said such claims are unfounded and do not reflect the true security situation in Benue.
Governor Alia, who emphasized his identity as a Catholic priest, said his commitment to truth and the fear of God would not allow him to misrepresent the realities on the ground.
“I am a Reverend Father, and being in governance does not take that away from me,” he said. “I came in as a governor as a Reverend Father, I am working with the fear of God and the compassion of Christianity and humanity, and at the end of the day, I am still going back to the church as a Reverend Father and a Christian.”
