UK Charity Commission Freezes Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries’ Assets Over Governance Concerns

The United Kingdom’s Charity Commission has frozen the assets of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) Ministries International, founded by Pastor Daniel Olukoya, citing serious concerns over transparency and governance.

In a report released on Monday, the Commission said it launched a formal inquiry into the church after identifying “financial concerns,” including the alleged misappropriation of charitable funds.

Investigators found that trustees of MFM’s UK charity arm failed to exercise adequate oversight or control over more than 100 bank accounts operated independently by individual branches.

According to the report, “many of the charity’s financial issues stemmed from its complex structure, which expanded from a few branches to over 90 nationwide, without matching improvements in governance.”

The Commission noted that several branches ran autonomously, opening accounts without central approval and failing to report income promptly — leading to inaccurate financial reporting. Some branches reportedly made major financial decisions, including property purchases and lease agreements, without trustee authorisation.

As a result of these findings, the regulator froze MFM’s assets to prevent further losses.

A spokesperson for MFM, Dan Aibangbe, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

This is not the first time the church’s UK arm has come under scrutiny. In 2019, the Charity Commission appointed an interim manager to oversee MFM’s operations after repeated failures to submit timely financial statements and what it described as “serious administrative weaknesses.”

The Commission has also taken similar actions in the past against other large ministries, including Christ Embassy UK, over financial management and accountability concerns.
