Bauchi Teen Arrested for Removing Sister’s Eyes in Suspected Ritual Attack

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy, identified as Auwalu Muhammad, for allegedly removing his 7-year-old sister’s eyes in a suspected money ritual incident.

The tragic event occurred on October 17, 2025, in Wailo town, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Monday, October 20, the spokesperson of the command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said the suspect lured his sister, Rukayya Muhammad, into a nearby bush where he attacked her and plucked out her eyes.

The victim was immediately taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi for emergency medical treatment. However, an ophthalmologist at the hospital confirmed that Rukayya had permanently lost her sight.

Wakil disclosed that five other suspects believed to be members of a ritualist syndicate were arrested in connection with the act.

According to him, “On October 17, 2025, at about 1800hrs, one Muhammad Adamu of Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa LGA, reported at the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 2000hrs, one Auwal Dahiru, aged 17 years, attacked his daughter, Rukayya Muhammad, aged 7, with the intent to kill her and removed her eyes.”

Upon receiving the report, detectives led by CSP Aliyu Mohammad Goni, the Divisional Police Officer of Soro Division, promptly visited the scene, arrested the suspect, and evacuated the victim to the hospital.

The police listed those arrested in connection with the crime as:

  1. Auwal Dahiru (17), Bayan Dutse, Wailo, Kubi Ward
  2. Mohammed Rabiu (19)
  3. Saleh Ibrahim (20)
  4. Nasiru Muhammad, Soro town
  5. Hassan Garba, Soro town
  6. Garba Dahiru (43), Soro town

Preliminary investigation revealed that Auwalu, driven by a desire for wealth, conspired with others to use his sister’s body parts for ritual purposes.

“The victim’s father stated that Auwalu lured his sister into the bush, attacked her, and forcefully removed her eyes. A medical examination confirmed that the girl will never regain her vision,” the PPRO said.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation, and investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of their involvement.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and professional investigation, with a promise to ensure justice for the victim.
