A joint team of defence and security operatives on Thursday forcefully dispersed protesters led by activist Omoyele Sowore in the Maitama area of Abuja.
The demonstrators, including Sowore, Barr. Aloy Ejimakor, and other supporters, had gathered around the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) headquarters, chanting “Free Nnamdi Kanu Now” to demand the release of the detained IPOB leader.
Before the crackdown, the protesters were heard warning police officers not to use teargas on them. Moments later, gunshots rang out, causing panic as the crowd scattered for safety.
