NSCDC Launches Manhunt After Attack on BUPoly Students’ Hostel in Jigawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, says it has launched a manhunt for armed attackers who stormed a rented off-campus male hostel of Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic (BUPoly), Hadejia.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday night along the Hadejia–Malam Madori road, involved suspected assailants wielding dangerous local knives. The attackers reportedly robbed the students of their phones and valuables, leaving many residents frightened.

Speaking in a telephone interview with The PUNCH on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, confirmed the development, noting that the suspects are believed to be local criminals who exploited the late hour.

“We are actively pursuing leads and conducting investigations following the incident at the polytechnic students’ hostel,” Tijjani said.

Although no arrests have been made, he stressed that intelligence gathering is ongoing with the support of community members. “The information we are receiving from residents is very helpful to our efforts,” he added.

The NSCDC has since intensified patrols and security checks around the institution. Tijjani urged students and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.

He assured that the attackers would be brought to justice, stressing that the safety of students remains a top priority.

The attack has heightened concerns about security around student accommodations in Hadejia, prompting renewed calls for stronger protection measures.
