Kwara CP Warns Against Extortion, Unlawful Phone Searches

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has warned officers against extortion, harassment, unlawful phone checks, and profiling youths as “Yahoo boys.”

Addressing senior officers in Ilorin on Friday, Ojo said the order follows Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun’s directive, stressing that violators will face severe disciplinary action.

He declared that indiscriminate phone searches are banned, except where a device is confirmed as evidence, and assured students and youths that “the era of intimidation and wrongful profiling is over in Kwara State.”

The command also announced that enforcement of tinted glass permits begins October 2, 2025. Offenders risk being charged to court within 24 hours, police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said.

A similar warning was issued earlier this year in Edo State by CP Betty Enekpen-Otimeyin.
