Notable Nigerian singer, Skales, has reflected on his challenging early years, recounting how he and his late mother once lived in a hut in Kaduna before gradually finding their footing.
Speaking on A TownHall Different Podcast, the singer revealed that during those times, life was far from easy. He recalled how they would spread mats on the floor to sleep until they eventually moved into a boys’ quarters (BQ).
Skales also shared his amazement at owning his first television after being signed to Banky W’s record label, EME. Coming from a background where he had never even seen a TV, he humorously noted how he would repeatedly switch it on and off in awe.
In his words:
“I’ve been through a lot. I come from Kaduna, from a poor family. My mum was a teacher. I used to live in a hut before we moved to a BQ. We slept on mats, my mom would lay wrappers on the floor. So coming from that situation to who I am now is crazy. I never saw TV until EME signed me—my first time owning one in my room.”
