President Bola Tinubu has officially lifted the six-month state of emergency in Rivers State, effective midnight, September 17, 2025.

The emergency was first declared on March 18, 2025, following a constitutional deadlock between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly.
With its suspension, Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the House of Assembly are set to resume their official duties on September 18, 2025.
President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the National Assembly for approving the emergency measure, as well as to the traditional rulers and people of Rivers State for their patience and support throughout the crisis. He also urged governors and lawmakers nationwide to embrace collaboration and peace to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
