Rivers Hoopers Coach Odaudu Relishes Victory, Eyes Next NBPL Phase

Head coach of Nigerian Basketball Premier League champions, Rivers Hoopers, Ogoh Odaudu, has praised his team’s performance following their narrow win over Kwara Falcons in Port Harcourt, while setting sights on the next stage of the 2025 season.

The Hoopers maintained their unbeaten run in the Atlantic Conference group phase, edging Falcons 88–86 in a thrilling midweek clash. Earlier in the campaign, the 2024 BAL bronze medalists had comfortably defeated the same opponents 83–61, underlining their title-defending ambition.

With the group phase wrapping up, Odaudu is already focused on the upcoming inter-group phase, which will also be staged in Port Harcourt.

“I’m happy that we were able to withstand the pressure and eventually come away with the win. It’s not about this phase, but it is good practice for us. I am really impressed by what I have seen from the team,” he said.

Odaudu highlighted the contribution of the younger players, noting how they are learning from the veterans and gradually stepping into bigger roles.

“A lot of the youngsters are actually stepping up, and I think they are learning a lot from the veteran players. I am sure we will be in top form by the time we come for the other phase in Port Harcourt later in the month,” he added.

If the Hoopers advance successfully through the inter-group stage, they will book a place in the playoff round, with the season set to conclude at the final four phase.
