The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, setting the stage for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other southern contenders to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.
The decision was reached during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The NEC also upheld the existing National Working Committee (NWC) zoning formula ahead of the November elective convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, while confirming Umar Damagum as the substantive National Chairman.
Meanwhile, loyalists of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, say the former Anambra governor is yet to make a decision on his next political step. Obidient Movement National Coordinator, Tanko Yunusa, noted that Obi “needs more time to reflect” before declaring his political direction.
Reacting to the development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the PDP’s move. APC’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, insisted the opposition party is “destined for defeat” in 2027 regardless of its candidate or zoning arrangement.
