Nigeria, Japan Deepen Ties in Solid Minerals Development

Nigeria and Japan are stepping up efforts to strengthen cooperation in the solid minerals sector, with plans to align investment strategies to unlock Nigeria’s vast mineral resources.

The initiative follows high-level talks between Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, and officials of the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) during the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama.

According to a statement issued in Abuja by the Minister’s Special Adviser, Kehinde Bamigbetan, the meeting centered on attracting Japanese mining companies to participate in Nigeria’s mineral exploration and development projects.

JOGMEC President, Michio Daito, acknowledged Nigeria’s immense mineral potential but stressed the importance of clear policies and improved infrastructure to minimize investment risks.

He highlighted reliable power supply, tax incentives, labor policies, free trade zones, and robust transport networks as critical factors in boosting investor confidence and ensuring successful collaboration.
