Edo Sports Commission Chairman Urges Youths to Harness Sports for Personal and Societal Growth

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Enabulele, has congratulated youths across Edo State on the occasion of the 2025 International Youth Day, encouraging them to embrace sports as a powerful tool for self-development and community progress.

In a statement signed by his Media Officer, Wilson Edoko, Enabulele highlighted this year’s theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond”, as a reminder of the pivotal role young people play in turning global development goals into meaningful local impact.

He urged Edo youths to seize the opportunity presented by the theme to discover and nurture their sporting talents while making positive contributions to their families, communities, and the state at large.

Reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision for sports development, Enabulele announced the launch of several tournaments across multiple sporting disciplines, aimed at engaging and empowering young people.

Marking the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth, he commended Edo youths for their resilience and significant contributions, particularly within the sporting sector.

The Chairman also called on private individuals and stakeholders to support youth development through inclusive policies, adequate resource provision, and structured platforms that enhance youth participation in community growth through sports.

He reminded the public that International Youth Day, first observed on August 12, 2000, is not only an occasion to highlight global youth issues but also a celebration of their role as dynamic agents of change.
