PDP’s Hypocrisy and Desperation: Edo Government Fires Back at Opposition’s “Baseless Claims”

The Edo State Government has dismissed as “baseless, ill-informed, and laughable” a recent statement by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, describing it as the “desperate wailings of a dead political party.”

In a statement on Monday, the government took aim at the PDP’s spokesperson, Chris Osa Nehikhare, calling him “an ever-noisy but chronically uninformed, self-imposed mouthpiece” whose political record “reads like a manual on failure.”

According to the government, the PDP has no moral authority to speak on governance, accountability, or prudent spending after “years of misrule, monumental corruption, and gross incompetence” that allegedly left Edo State in ruins.

“The same PDP that had every opportunity to transform Edo but instead plundered its resources, destroyed public trust, and mortgaged the future of our people now pretends to be the conscience of the state. Edo people are neither fooled nor interested,” the statement read.

The government defended Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration against allegations of wasteful spending, stressing that all official engagements—both local and international—are targeted at forging partnerships, attracting investments, and creating long-term opportunities for Edo people.

Unlike the PDP era, the statement said, the current administration’s foreign trips are “not shopping expeditions or family vacations,” but purposeful missions with “clear objectives and measurable results.”

The government accused Nehikhare of hypocrisy, noting that during the PDP’s tenure, Edo’s schools deteriorated, roads collapsed, hospitals became “death traps,” and investments fled the state.

“Chris Nehikhare is a political vulture feeding on the carcass of a dead party,” the statement continued. “The PDP in Edo State is finished, buried by the will of the people in the last elections. His noisy outbursts are nothing more than the dying screams of an expired political machine.”

Highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects and economic reforms, the Edo State Government insisted that Governor Okpebholo’s team is focused on reversing the damage allegedly caused by the PDP, restoring investor confidence, and delivering measurable progress.

The statement concluded with a blunt message:

“Edo has moved forward. The PDP should accept its political obituary and rest in peace.”
