The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a total of ₦4.2 billion for the funding of 158 research projects as part of the 2024 cycle of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) National Research Fund (NRF).
This development comes after the rigorous screening of over 6,900 research proposals submitted by scholars and institutions across the country. The selection process was overseen by the National Research Fund Committee.
According to a statement issued by Abdulmumin Oniyangi, Director of Public Affairs at TETFund, the approved grants are distributed across key research areas as follows:
- ₦2.35 billion for Science, Engineering, Technology, and Innovation (SETI),
- ₦1.03 billion for Humanities and Social Sciences, and
- ₦870.7 million for Cross-Cutting Research initiatives.
The selected projects include innovative solutions in areas such as low-cost housing models, smart fertilizers for sustainable agriculture, aerial robotics for precision farming, advanced military medical monitoring systems, and intelligent energy metering technologies.
TETFund emphasized that the funding aims to support high-impact research capable of addressing critical national challenges and driving socio-economic development through innovation and academic excellence.
