The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has officially declared open the 2025 Batch B, Stream I National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Course for corps members deployed to the state. The event took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Okada, Ovia North-East Local Government Area.
In his address, Governor Okpebholo emphasized Edo State’s vast opportunities for personal and professional development, citing thriving sectors such as agriculture, education, technology, entrepreneurship, and tourism. He assured corps members of his administration’s unwavering support and commitment to their success during the service year.
“We believe that you, as young Nigerians, possess the enthusiasm, creativity, and eagerness to learn—qualities that can leave a lasting impact on Edo State,” the Governor stated. “The NYSC unites our nation, drives development, and empowers our youth. I encourage you to fully cooperate with the NYSC management throughout the orientation and beyond.”
Governor Okpebholo further urged the corps members to embrace the orientation programme, describing it as a critical phase designed to equip them with the skills, knowledge, and mindset required to thrive during their service year and in future endeavors.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Ben-Ushie Frances Ifeoma, who represented the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, announced that the Edo State Orientation Camp had commenced activities on Wednesday, 30th July 2025, alongside other camps nationwide. As of midnight on Thursday, 1st August 2025, a total of 1,033 prospective corps members—comprising 464 males and 569 females—had completed registration and were set for formal swearing-in.
Brigadier General Nafiu, through his representative, congratulated the new corps members for their successful enlistment, describing it as the start of a transformative journey. He highlighted the NYSC’s role in fostering national unity and providing a platform for young Nigerians to build meaningful relationships, enhance their skills, and expand their professional networks.
He advised corps members to remain disciplined and open to learning, stressing that these qualities are essential to achieving the scheme’s objectives.
The Director-General also extended appreciation to the Edo State Government for its consistent support, particularly in providing buses to transport corps members to the 18 local government areas after camp. However, he noted a few ongoing challenges affecting the smooth execution of NYSC programmes in the state and sought the state government’s continued assistance.
Senator Okpebholo, represented at the event by the Director of Administration in the Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Anthonia Odia Okolo, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring the safety, welfare, and overall well-being of corps members throughout their service year.
He described Edo as a land blessed with rich cultural heritage, historic relevance, and boundless opportunities, encouraging corps members to contribute meaningfully and make the most of their time in the state.
