The Federal Government has announced plans to establish cattle breeding centers in all six geopolitical zones of the country, as part of its broader strategy to modernize livestock production and bolster national food security.
This initiative was disclosed by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, during the second day of the Citizens-Government Engagement and Midterm Assessment of the Tinubu administration held in Kaduna.
The development was also shared via the official X handle of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who emphasized that the move is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
According to Abdullahi, the cattle breeding centers will function as modern livestock hubs designed to enhance productivity, promote sustainability, and support economic growth in the livestock industry.
He noted that the implementation of the project will involve close collaboration between key ministries, including Agriculture, Environment, Water Resources, Livestock Development, and Marine and Blue Economy.
“The synergy between these ministries is crucial in delivering the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Abdullahi stated. “The focus is to transition from traditional methods of livestock rearing to a more structured, efficient, and economically viable system.”
The establishment of these centers is expected to significantly transform Nigeria’s livestock sector, create jobs, and contribute to national food security in the long term.
