Construction Begins on Benin-Asaba 10-Lane Expressway — 20km Set for Completion by December
Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Wednesday, carried out a comprehensive inspection of key ongoing infrastructure projects in Benin City, declaring them a clear demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in action.
One of the highlights of the inspection was the ambitious Benin-Asaba dual carriageway, a 10-lane expressway project set to transform transportation within the region. According to Mr. K.V. Rao, Project Director for Africa Plus Partners and the Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company Limited, 20 kilometers of the road are expected to be completed before Christmas 2025.
“This is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President. He is taking this road straight to Asaba. It is going to be 10 lanes—five on one side, five on the other,” Governor Okpebholo said while addressing journalists during the tour.
He emphasized that the project stems from high-level collaboration between federal and state actors, referencing the joint flag-off event earlier this year that included the Minister of Works and Minister of Finance.

Beyond the expressway, the Governor also inspected the ongoing reconstruction of Amufi Road in the Agbor Road axis, a critical route that links four communities: Amufi, Okpagha, Iyanomo, and Egiekpe. Additionally, he reviewed progress on the flyover construction at Ramat Park, designed to ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.
“These projects are not just roads; they are lifelines for our communities. They will ease transportation, open up economic opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for our people,” the Governor noted.
Mr. Rao further clarified that palliative measures are currently in place to manage traffic during construction. “Real work will begin on August 5th, 2025. The road will eventually feature two main carriageways—two lanes left, two lanes right—and two service roads on each side.”
These infrastructure projects collectively mark a new chapter in Edo State’s development story, solidifying the state’s place in President Tinubu’s nationwide development blueprint.
