The Nigerian Senate has directed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central to stay away from legislative proceedings, declaring that her suspension remains in effect.
In a statement released on Sunday, Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu stated that there is no valid court order requiring the Senate to lift the suspension or allow her return before its expiration.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 following a confrontation over seat arrangements, during which she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual misconduct—an allegation he has strongly denied.
The suspended lawmaker had cited a recent judgment by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, expressing her intention to return to the chamber on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
But Adaramodu insisted that the court’s decision did not include any clear or enforceable directive compelling the Senate to recall her before the suspension period lapses.
